:star: Chapter 3

:bulletpink: "Oh thank God you're there," Jane said in Rainie ear as soon as she answered the phone. "Where the hell have you been? I've been trying to contact all day. I know that you often lost your phone, but dang girl…I've been so worried about you that I've been tempted a dozen of times to drive over there see if you're okay or if this unknown guy had murdered you." Jane finally took a breath in the middle of her outburst. "Please, tell me he's no longer there."

Rainie smiled at Jane's concerned voice and motherlike lecture, "Nope, Jane, Mr. Gorgeous already left."

"Okay, what time did he leave?"

"He just left."

"Rainie!"

"What?" she asked in feigned innocent.

"Oh, best," Jane gasped. "Don't tell me you spend the entire day with him showing your Vampire Book collections?"

Rainie bit her lower lip as she remembered exactly what they had done for the whole day. It made her warm and tingly all over again. "Uhmm…well, we didn't get to that area, but we did it on kitchen counter a couple of time, on the table, on the floor, the couch, my bed, and–"

"Oh, my God! Way too much information. Tell me you're kidding about this."

"No, not a bit. I'm telling you, Jane, this guy had it all."

Jane groaned. "What were you thinking? You just met him."

"I know." Rainie said, agreeing completely with her best friend. What she just did was crazy, but damn. "It's so not like me, but I couldn't help myself. He was like my favorite ice cream and all I could think about was someone give me a spoon."

"Oh, my God!" Jane said.

"Yeah, it was so weird, and I know that it was not so like me. But the next thing I know was the spoon was on my hand and I was digging for him."

"Good grief, Rainie. Have you lost your mind?!"

Rainie laughed. "Maybe. I just can't help myself. He was a hot guy who's willing to share his hotness with me, so I say, why not."

"Oh jeez, Rain. I can't believe you did this. You've been watching too much vampire movies that you're picking up a bad habit. Bringing home a stray man you don't even know and the next thing you know, you're dancing naked on the tabletop."

"Oh, I forgot to tell. We also did that, and he's a very good dancer."

Jane shrieked. "Stop it!"

Rainie laughed at the tortured angst on Jane's voice as she continued to tease her. "Sorry, best. I just want to share the best 10 hours of my life."

"Jeez, you don't even know him a whole day."

"Well, I know him now. Every last juicy inch of him. And by the way, he got a lot of juicy inches."

"I said, stop it!" Jane begged while she's cracking into laughter. "I can't take it anymore. I don't need to know that a sex athlete is running around the city while I'm married to an Archeologist who barely gets home. This is so unfair."

Rainie laughed again. "Well, Tim is nice. In his own way I guess."

"Yeah, my sweetie pie can make love like a rabbit. But due to his job, having a steamy sex of him is pretty rare."

Rainie's merry mood gloomed a bit. Even though Tim seldom gets home due to his expeditions, Jane is still more fortunate than her for she has a husband whom she can share her life with. While she on the other hand, lives alone. "You have him, Jane. Even though not always, but you still have him. And that's what's important."

:bulletblack: It was already past 2 AM when Damon found himself outside Rainie's apartment. He'd tried to tell himself that it was just by pure chance and coincident that he end up here, but who is he kidding.

He was here because of her.

Damon cursed under his breath. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get her out of his mind.

Rainie had touched him in way that no one else does. She was heaven. The physical comfort and companionship she'd given him had touched him profoundly.

What had she'd done to him? After all of those centuries, no one woman had able to creep completely to his heart.

Elena got close, but that was a very long process.

And what's more frustrating, is that if he were human, he'd be with her now.

You're not human.

He didn't need a reminder. All too well, he knew what he was. He liked what he was.

And yet…

"Well, well, well, who do we have here?"

He tensed at the familiar voice coming out of the darkness and on the fact that she's the last person on earth that he want to see right now.

"Katherine," he let out a disgusted breath.

She appeared beside him. Her shimmering oval shaped face and almond brown eyes looked knowingly at him. As a Doppelganger, she had a complete resemblance to her descendant, Elena. But their attitudes differ vastly. "Is this the part where I should ask what are you doing here?"

"I believe you already knew answer, so don't bother."

"She's fine."

Damon cursed.

"And that irritates you?"

"Yes."

Katherine laughed at that. "Poor Damon. You found the only woman alive who doesn't think you hung the moon and the stars."

"Yeah, I'm being arrogant. But I can't get her out of thoughts. And what make things worst is that she feel nothing?"

"I said she's fine, I didn't say she feel nothing."

"So she did feel something for me?"

"Maybe yes, maybe not. But if you want, I could do more…investigating."

"Don't bother," Damon said quickly. And then he faced her, and frowned, "And what are you doing here anyway? Are you up to something again?"

"Do you really think that low on me?"

"Based on experience, yes."

"Oh Damon," Katherine said, walking a small circle around his body. "You're thinking too much. It was pure chance that we meet here. And I believe I even got in this city first before you. The whole time I thought that you were still at Mystic Fall until I saw you dancing with that girl last night."

"So you were there?"

"Yeah," she said, biting her lip. "I also knew what the two of you had done the entire day. And you know what I really find it very weird because I never remember you being that insatiable with me."

Damon shrugged sarcastically. "Maybe she's just a better lover."

"Oooo," Katherine breathed. "You really do prefer women that don't like you."

"No, I prefer women that are honest with me."

A slow, seductive smile spread over her face. "But you prefer me before."

He grimaced. "Past mistakes, big mistakes. Things I regretted, things I don't want to remember."

"Okay, so like her, you hate me. End of discussion. Period. Case closed." Katherine said. "And then what, Damon? What will you do next?"

"Get away from you," he said directly.

"And then?"

Be with Rainie. Damon thought.

:bulletpink: Rainie lay blankly in her bed, staring at the ceiling, tracing her lips, her breasts, down to her body with her fingers. She can't still forget Damon's smooth and tender lips, and the way that he had touched her especially the way he caressed and kissed her. It was like a dream, a dream which she have to bring back to reality.

Romance and love life are not her top priorities right now.

Committal relationships are hindrances for her.

True love, destiny, and love at first sight are nothing but illusions. Things that isn't real.

This is reality, a world composed of competitions, security, and practicality.

She must prioritize first her stability in life before anything else, especially over something which uncertain like romantic relationships.

But she just can't help it. Damon doesn't want to leave her head. And more she tried to wag him off, the stronger he retains in her.

"I'm going mad!" she cried, covering her face with the pillow.

Knock-knock-knock! The sound of the knock on the door interceded.

Rainie frowned. Who could that be? It's already 3 in the morning. Who would bother to visit her this early?

She immediately gets herself off of her bed and move her way to the front door.

"Who's there?" she asked.

No answer. Just knocks.

That engraved unease on her. She took a vase from the corner. For protection, just in case. "I said who's there?" she repeated.

Still no answer, but the knocking continues.

Rainie slowly and shakily gets closer to the door thinking of nothing else aside from plotting an effective plan in the case that things gets wild and ugly sooner or later.

"Hey, Rainie. Open the door. It's me, Jane."

Rainie dropped the vase to her side and sighed in relief upon hearing Jane's voice. What is she doing here at this time? She paced immediately towards the door and opened it. "Jane, what are you…" But she trailed off when it wasn't Jane that welcomed her upon opening the front of the door but woman whom she doesn't recognize. She has a beautiful face and structure, long, brown, and curled hair.

All in all, she's a woman with a face of an angel and body of a sinner. "Knock, knock," she said.

:bulletblack: Damon was heading towards a dark alley when his phone rang. At first he thought that it's Elena again and planned to shut it off. But when he realized that it was Katherine who's calling, he felt an extreme urge to answer. The woman is always out for trouble and the last thing that he wants is to let her loose. "What?" He answered the phone bitterly.

He heard Katherine chuckles from the other line. "Guess where I am."

"Like I care."

"Really?" she said slowly.

"Stop calling me, Katherine. I'm not interesting in anything that has to do with you."

"Are you sure about that?" she said. "How about if I tell you that your little Rainie is in big, big trouble right now?"

Damon's heart stopped at the words of Katherine.

"Hurry up, Damon. Time is ticking."

Rainie!

He didn't think twice. Every instinct that he possessed told him to run to where she is.

By the time that Damon reached Rainie apartment, it was complete chaos on the street outside the apartment's entrance.

A large crowd of people stood around outside while two ambulances are parked while medics tended two wounded police officers. Someone had beaten them to pulp.

"So what happened?" the detective asked one of the wounded police.

"Someone called us from this apartment saying that a thief is currently raiding them. When we got here, we saw woman exiting the building. At first we thought that she might be the one that called us or another occupant on the place. But when we tried to ask her, she attacked us."

"A woman?" the Detective repeated in disbelief.

"Yes. She's about 5'3. Lean, long dark hair, she looks like a freaking supermodel. But she was like a demon when she attacked us. She flipped and tossed us like we're nothing. I got at least 2 bullets on her and she didn't even budge when I shot her. She just keeps coming on us."

Damon froze.

Katherine. There's no one else who could fit the description.

Damn! He shouldn't have left the area while Katherine is around. That bitch is always out for no good.

Scanning through the crowd, Damon found Rainie standing under a light outside the apartment, next to a tall, lean woman with blonde hair who was speaking to a uniformed police officer. She had her arms crossed over her chest as if she were cold.

Damon made his way through the crowd to her side.

Her face lit up the moment that she saw him. "Damon? What are you doing here?"

He shouldn't feel anything for her, and yet there's no denying the raw emotions that he felt for her every time their gazes met. "Are you okay?" he asked, shrugging off his jacket and holding it up for her.

She nodded as she allowed him to help her into his jacket. "Did you hear what happened? Someone raided our apartment and then attacked the cops. It's terrible!"

Before Damon could think, he pulled her into his arms and held her close. She was trembling and cold, but she still fell warm and wonderful, and he doesn't want to let her go. "I'm glad you're okay," he whispered to her.

The woman who was talking with the police officer looked at them with a scowl. "Whoa! Okay guys, I don't want to disturb your sweet moment. But we have a situation right now, and I believe that this is not the right time to get sentimental."

Damon bit back a smile, and reluctantly withdrew from her.

"You," the woman said to him. "Introduce yourself. Pronto."

Rainie slapped her gently on the arm. "Damon, this is my best friend Jane. Jane, meet Damon."

Damon offered his hand to her. Jane surveyed him up from head to toe. "Nice meeting you, Jane."

Jane accepted his hand. "Nice meeting you too, Damon. Have we met before?"

"You drove us last night?" Rainie reminded her.

"Oh, yes," Jane said. "That was you."

"Drive?" Damon repeated.

"She helped me in bringing you here the other night."

"Oh, I see. Thank you for that," he said to Jane.

"No prob." From him, Jane shifted her attention to Rainie. "I better go. I already told the police everything. Are you sure, you don't want to stay at my place?"

"No, thanks Jane," she said. "I don't want to bother you. I'm going to be fine here."

"You sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure."

"Okay," she breathed. "Just give me call if something happens again, okay?"

Rainie nodded. "Okay."

Jane hugged Rainie. "Take care of yourself, best."

"I will," she replied. "Thanks, Jane."

With a tight squeeze on Rainie's body, Jane withdrew from her and drifted towards her car.

Awkwardness fell between them upon Jane's exit, as he tried to think of something to say to her.

Finally, she cleared her throat. "I didn't expect to see you again."

He didn't know what to say and how to respond. "I…ummm…"

"You forgot something?"

"No," he said quickly. "I came back for you."

A slow and seductive smile spread over her face. "Really?" she asked.

"Yeah. I heard about the attack and I was worried," he said before he could stop himself.

"Really?"

He nodded.

Smiling wider, she walked herself closer to him until their bodies touched. "That's very sweet of you."

Damon held her and inhaled her warm scent. Her breasts were flattened against him and all he could think about was how good and soft they felt in his hands, and how delicious they tasted.

God! He truly missed this woman.

"You know, Rainie, I think it's not a good idea to stay in your place alone."

She stepped away from him. "I know. But I can't stay with Jane. Her husband just got home, and they barely see each other. I don't want to intrude their precious times to be together."

"Actually, I was thinking…" Well, he couldn't really say what he was thinking especially that he has other wicked intentions than just to keep her safe from Katherine.

But then he didn't have to. She smiled a wicked smile. "If you want me to go with you, all you have to do is ask."

"I didn't think it would be that easy."

She rose up on her tiptoes and gave him a seductive look. "It's different if it's you."

Those words make his heart soar. He really liked her. She's bold, quirky, and sassy. Like the combinations of all the women that he valued. He reached out and cupped her face with his palms. "You have an incredible way of grasping things."

She bit her lower lip and gave him an impish smile. "Yes I do," she said. "So tell me, where do you live?"
